Alphonso Davies is no ordinary footballer, and his career trajectory has been far from a straight line thus far. Against the odds, the Canadian emerged from obscurity - Buduburam refugee camp in Ghana - to become a record signing from the MLS when he joined Bayern Munich in 2018. His humility, natural athleticism, and work ethic have seen him climb leaps and bounds with each game he plays, and have now landed him in the stratosphere of the world’s elite young players.

2005 - Born in Buduburam, a Ghanaian refugee camp, to Liberian parents fleeing civil war, Davies arrived in Canada at the age of 5. He remained a Liberian citizen until 2017, when he received Canadian citizenship.

2015 - Joined the Whitecaps FC Residency at the age of 14.

2016 - Became the first player born in the 2000s to play in an MLS match after making his debut at 16 for Vancouver Whitecaps, and the second youngest player to play in MLS, behind Freddy Adu.

2017 - At age 16, he became the youngest player to appear for the Canadian men's national team at the CONCACAF Gold Cup. When he scored two goals against French Guiana, he also became the youngest player to score for the Canadian national team and the first player born in the 2000s to score at a top level international tournament.

That year, he also was named among the 60 best young soccer talents in the world, and began to attract interest by European clubs including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

July 25, 2018 - Vancouver announced a multi-million-dollar transfer for Davies to Bundesliga club Bayern Munich. The base fee for the transfer was $13.5 million, with performance-related bonuses that total $22 million, a then-record for MLS.
